Thriteen Reasons Why

Asher, Jay. (2011). Thirteen reasons why. Penguin Press: NY. This book has two main characters. Hannah Baker and Clay Jensen.  Hannah has committed suicide by taking pills. Before she did this she recorded out all the reasons why, the 13 people who are part of her decision. Clay always loved Hannah and she sends them to him two weeks after her death. He listens to tem over the course of the day and partly blames himself. It is eye-opening how connected we are and that suicide is not always a rash decision. I think that as this book gains popularity, it offers an interesting conversation about suicide. I think that it would be better to listen to this book on audio instead of reading because it can get confusing who’s point of view the story is coming from at times. The audience to fully comprehend this book should be a bit more mature. This book falls under contemporary realistic fiction as its genre because it is plausible that this could happen and because teen suicide is real. This is set in modern times which is why it is contemporary.
